How do I find my size at Universal Standard?

We recommend measuring yourself for the best fit. Measure around your bust at the fullest point, your waist at the narrowest part, and your hips at the fullest part. Compare your measurements to our size chart to find your perfect fit. Our sizes range from 00-40 (4XS to 4XL). If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up. What is Universal Sizing?

We thought conventional sizing seemed skewed, so we shifted the spotlight to reflect the real bell curve. If the average woman wears a size 18, then that should be called a Medium, right? Our sample size is an 18, and we engineer every single size from there to ensure the perfect fit for all of US. Our sizes range from 00-40 (4XS to 4XL in Universal Standard sizing).

What is your return and exchange policy?

We offer free shipping and fast returns. If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can return or exchange items through our Returns Portal at universalstandard.happyreturns.com. Exchanges are free for domestic customers. Please note that Final Sale items are not eligible for returns.

Fit Liberty is our revolutionary shopping program that allows you to buy for the size you are right now. Any piece in the Fit Liberty collection is eligible for a one-year size exchange (beyond our standard return policy) should you go up or down in size within a year. Our fits vary by style. Skimming fit is designed for a comfortable fit that lays closer to the body without clinging. Each product page includes specific fit details and model measurements to help you choose the right size. Our model information typically shows the size worn and the model's measurements for reference.

What materials does Universal Standard use?

We use premium, carefully selected fabrics for comfort and durability. Each product page displays the specific fabric composition and care instructions under the Fabric & Care section. Our materials are chosen to maintain their quality wash after wash. Common fabrics include our signature Moro Ponte, premium cotton blends, and luxurious liquid jersey.

Good fit initially, they will shrink

"Bought these to replace a previous pair I had purchased a couple years ago after the zipper started sticking. Loved them initially and appreciate that they come in long/tall lengths, but these SHRINK. I only wash jeans in cold water and hang to dry (as a tall woman, I've struggled with clothes being too short for most of my life so I religiously take extra steps to try to prevent any shrinkage) Color stayed true without fading though, so it's a mixed bag on quality."

Love

"I ordered these pants as part of the sample sale. As directed, I sized up by one size. I typically wear a 4 in US pants, so I ordered a size 6. The pants were so small that as soon as I took it out of the package, I thought I had been sent the wrong size. I think going up 2 or more sizes is necessary for these pants. Unfortunately, these were final sale, so I guess these will be just in case I get sick and lose a lot of weight?"

Not a fan

"I have the Joni jeans in midnight blue and they are my favorite pair of pants (aside from the fact that the crotch wears out fast). The midnight blue jeans are soft and a little stretchy and very flattering. I ordered a black pair hoping I'd love them too. I do not. They are NOT the same material as the midnight blue jeans. The material is thin and stiff, the kind of material that I don't think will soften over time. And the calves are cut VERY skinny. Sadly the black was final sale so I can't return them."

Soft Black, excellent; Black, horrible

"These jeans in Soft Black are my favorite pair of pants. In Black, they're a completely different experience. I sized up, as suggested, and they bag around the crotch (so attractive). The fabric is much rougher (chafes uncomfortably) and not as stretchy (as described, but believe them--they're not AT ALL as stretchy). It feels like they should be sold as some other fit/name. Or maybe not sold at all."

NOT true to size in this style.

"I am si disappointed. I absolutely love the pair of these in midnight blue. I could live in those. These, despite being the exact same size, are not at all the same fit. They sit slightly lower on my waist and are MUCH tighter. I would actually need to size up in the black. Which makes no sense. But I am stuck with them as they were final sale. üòñ"

Inconsistent Sizing (otherwise great jeans)

"I have these jeans in size 12 in ""soft black"" and they fit like a dream -- comfortable, cute, the perfect jeans! I ordered the regular black jeans and they are quite a bit smaller. I can barely zip them up. This happened to me with another pair of US jeans that I had in another color and then ordered the black. I'm going to return for a size 14 and see if that can replicate the magic of the soft black size 12."

Same size as usual, but way too tight at the top

"I was THRILLED to see that the Joni is offered now in a deep black; that's my preference for conference wear, with a nice jacket! But when I ordered my usual size (22) the jeans were tight to pull up over my hips, and I could not button them. So I guess I'll try exchanging for the 24 size. BUT this has NOT been my experience with multiple pairs of size 22 Joni jeans in midnight blue, including a pair purchased just last month. What's up, US? I love your products in part because of the consistency - don't disappointment me!!!"

Fit great!

"I guess all of my skinny jeans are out of style now. These jeans fit well and the 27"" inseam is terrific since I usually have to have the length altered. Fabric doesn't stretch out at the knees and the curvy cut works with my apple shape."

inconsistent sizing across fabrics

"I LOVE my size 20 Joni in indigo, so went to buy the black in the same size. But the button is at least an inch away from closing. Happily their exchange to go up a size is free, but it's still a pain. When I emailed them they said they know about the size difference. I wish it was shared on the item description since it's a known issue! So as someone who straddles a 20/22 in size, I need a 20 in the indigo and at least a 22 in the black (TBD)."
