THE SIZE REVOLUTION

Ralph Pucci & US

For years, Ralph Pucci has been a purveyor of good taste. For those who have not yet had the pleasure of seeing his incredible galleries sprawling several floors of 44 W 18th St in Manhattan - you have an amazing outing ahead of you. But aside from the beautiful pieces on display, Pucci is famous for another passion – one inherited from his parents. The original Pucci family business was mannequin fabrication, dating back to the 1950s. The beautifully sculpted collections, each one completely unique, have graced the polished floors of the country’s most famous luxury department stores including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue. And for the first time in all those decades, the latest collection of the venerable forms goes beyond the usual size 0s and 2s, and includes sizes 8, 12, and 16... this is a beginning.

The question you may be asking yourself is, so what? Why does it matter? It’s only going to 16!

It matters because this is evidence that the industry is waking up and recognizing that it’s no longer sustainable to ignore the 67%. When a seasoned veteran like Pucci takes steps toward inclusivity, it means a revolution is brewing, and change is in the air. Size-diverse mannequins are becoming more and more prominent across the retail space, and have already appeared in forward-thinking luxury department stores like Nordstrom.

Until December 12th, the full range of his inclusive collection is on display in his latest gallery exhibition, SIZES. This is the first modern and truly artistic mannequin collection to include a broader size range (rather than come from a ‘specialty’ manufacturer).

Universal Standard is proud to dress these stunning figures.
